Nanosolar

I saw this political cartoon and it shows this elderly BIG OIL man sitting at a desk contemplating the oil crisis and the over 100 dollars per barrel cost and we see the above.

I just read where a company out in California has devised a means of producing thin film photovoltaic cells that can be mass produced at about a price of 30 cents per watt. Market cost would work out to around 90 cents per watt. Now, if you were to use those thin film cells in CT, you could first get a grant to purchase those cells and get rebated 45 of the 90 cents. On top of that, there is another grant program where you get 50 cents per watt produced. Works out that you could get paid 5 cents per watt to use solar panels on your commercial building, and in CT this means any multifamily dwelling of more than four units. That means, you could essentially get your electrical needs taken care of and get paid if you wanted to build an apartment building, a housing project, a mixed use building, an office building, anything. I don't know what your idea of feasibility is, but having the government pay you for energy sounds pretty damned feasible to me.

Instead our government wants us to use oil. Send young men off to die in a war that makes no sense and was started on the basis of a grotesque lie. At this point, government has gone from bad to worse to worst to flat out absurd. If voters refuse to take action and to allow their finances, their kids lives, and their very planet to simply go up in smoke due to the greed of old, White men in power, and yet voters elect to do nothing about it, one can only assume voters judge themselves to be unworthy of any form of health, happiness, and well being, and that, my friends, is some sad business right there.

i don't get it...what kind of a lie???...you are just another spoiled liberal....I'm a liberal...but they haven't made sense for 30 + years..they are all spoiled little children...and they call George W so many bad names...what a bunch of dumb fucks....and hey....you will look back on this era as the start of time to get solar photovoltaic economically feasible...it takes 100$ oil to get this next massive change done....don't know if your old enough, but there was a massive investment in the internet back in the 90's...and then as with all buildups...the fall out...the breaks...you see that with the housing problems...people qualifying for loans that should never had gotten them...but to get off the oil...it has to get to a very high cost for oil....this will make other forms of energy generation feasible...this is what has been the problem for 30+ years....clinton tried but couldn't do it...or wouldn't do it...

and as far as your opinion goes about people getting killed for some fake war...well, i got news for you...the people we are fighting are after us...AND THAT MEANS YOU TOO...they want us either to die or convert to their religion...liberals just don't get it....instead they run people like kerry or another clinton..or who is that other person...but i'm waiting out for algore....yu know, that bug killer they use to spray on apples or something back in the 80's...or maybe you can get jimmy carter to run again...what a failure that was...yu scare me because you don't think things through...face it...liberals are just stupid....

ba bye....they are coming to kill you or convert you...and do away with your life in the United States...

I know....I am part of the knowledge base that knows about these people....you are not...

Dear Anonymous,
Despite the nature of your comments, I am really grateful you took the time to comment. While I can't say you responded in the most enlightened manner, some of what you have to say has validity. I agree much of the investments in the 90's led to the crash in housing and internet markets we are experiencing today. However, your take on the Iraqi war is completely absurd. Do you think the Middle East would give a crap about us if we weren't in there sucking as much wealth out of their land as we can? Further, there are other complications you don't bother to take into account like tribalism, religious hatred and a multitude of other forces left untouched upon.

Think it through. Get back to me.

Every spare dollar I have is invested in alternative energy companies such as First Solar, Ascent Solar, Sun Power, Florida Power & Light (the largest wind energy producer in the US) and several others. In these days of the credit crunch, moving our dollars into the capital markets for use by companies that will be working on the solution to our emissions and energy problem will be good for the country. Let's call it patriotic. It'll get us out of the Far East.

BTW: I am a liberal democrat who would pat the prez on the back for his move forward today on emissions caps (though it may be too little, too late).
